The death of Carrie Fisher has shocked her fans and also sparked speculations about her iconic role of Princess Leia Organa in the Star Wars franchise, Star Wars: Episode VIII.

Carrie Fisher has a larger role in the next year release Star Wars: Episode VIII and one wonders how her death will affect the movie. More so because Lucasfilm has not spoken about the matter after the actress died of a heart attack at the age of 60 on Tuesday.

The actress completed filming her part as Princess Leia in Star Wars: Episode VIII before she bid goodbye to the world, reports Deadline. Had she been alive, she would have also returned to Star Wars: Episode IX.

So, fans will get to see Fisher on screen next year only when Star Wars: Episode VIII releases in December and they can find solace in the fact that the movie will see her in a larger role. Her daughter Billie Lourd is also starring in the film and if fans remember, she was present in Force Awakens as well.

However, Star Wars: Episode VIII is not the only project that Fisher completed before her death. She also wrapped up Season 3 of Amazon's comedy series Catastrophe.

But her sudden demise will surely affect Episode VIII as well as the Star Wars franchise but Lucasfilm has not spoken about it as yet, reports Comic Book. It is not clear if changes would be made to her role or to the plot.

Notably in the past, several movies had to make changes due to the death of actors. When Paul Walker passed away in 2013 due to a car crash, Furious 7 was in the middle of production and it caused an alteration in his role.

His character Brian O'Connor was honored with an emotional farewell speech by Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) in the movie. What is more, his brothers also stood in for him and enacted a few scenes to help imprint an image of his face on their own with the help of computer graphics.

So, will something similar also happen in the case of Carrie Fisher in Star Wars: Episode VIII? Only Lucasfilm can confirm.
