Looks like Tyler Lockwood is not the only character on The Vampire Diaries Season 8 who will make viewers shed tears. But it also raises the possibility of Nina Dobrev's return.

Showrunner Julie Plec has hinted at more painful events in the coming times, reports TVLine. When asked if Tyler Lockwood was the last of the major character fans would have to say goodbye to, she clearly said "no."

But Plec did not divulge further information on the subject, only offering words like painful and terrible. This has left everyone wondering if one can afford to lose more characters on The Vampire Diaries.

Her indication might also be towards carnage at the hands of Stefan as he has turned off his humanity. She said that Stefan has never been good with temptation in ripper mode.

Everyone knows from past experience that he has a threshold and it will be the job of Damon to supervise his brother and ensure that he stays on the good side of that threshold. If he crosses it, there is risk of losing him forever.

In related news, there is a chance that Bonnie will die in Season 8 of The Vampire Diaries, reports CarterMatt. The next episode of the current season titled The Simple Intimacy of the Near Touch will see her facing the tough decision of transforming into a vampire as she will be returning from her vacation with a bottle of Enzo's blood. It has Caroline wondering if Bonnie will go ahead with the transformation.

This has led to the speculations that Bonnie's death could lead to the return of Elena (Nina Dobrev). As fans may remember that Elena was put into a deep slumber and only Bonnie's death can bring her back.

So, is it that the showrunners would be killing off Bonnie to create the much-awaited reunion of Elena and Damon, played by Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder. Well, chances are high as Plec has hinted at another death but one cannot be sure as Dobrev has not confirmed that she would be returning for the final season of The Vampire Diaries.

The Vampire Diaries Season 8 returns on Jan. 13, 2017 on The CW at 8 p.m.
