Maks Chmerkovskiy is very proud to be a father, one week later.

Chmerkovskiy and his fiancée, Peta Murgatroyd, have been parents for a week and two days. Murgatroyd delivered their baby son, Shai, on Jan. 4 and while the couple has been basking in the glow of parenthood, they've already become protective of their son.

Chmerkovskiy took to Instagram on Thursday, posting a photo of himself with his back turned to the camera, holding Shai.

"It's been one week plus one day of my fatherhood and I'm the happiest person that's ever lived," the Dancing With the Stars pro wrote in the caption. "I'm also feeling very protective and now understand what every parent in history have been going through for as long as humans have been giving birth. I don't let too many people come see my son and I don't want to put any of him on social media just yet. @petamurgatroyd and I just want to enjoy our little family, together with our loved ones, and take in all the precious moments which we'll never get back. So be sensitive please. Or not. Either way, hope everyone's year is off to an incredible start. Ours sure started with a bang. P.S. Farts, poops and throw-ups are the best!"

Murgatroyd posted her own photo on Thursday of the baby's room, which appears to be elegantly designed.

Fans likely won't see Chmerkovskiy or Murgatroyd on Dancing With the Stars this coming season. In addition to parenthood, they are planning their wedding, which is scheduled for July. Chmerkovskiy returned to Dancing With the Stars for the first time in five seasons last fall, dancing with model Amber Rose. Meanwhile, Murgatroyd won her most recent season, with deaf model Nyle DiMarco.

Dancing With the Stars season 24 begins in March on ABC.
