Fans of Monolith Soft's Xeno meta-series were probably wide-eyed when the developer's logo was shown during Nintendo's recent presentation. During the special event held for the unveiling of Nintendo's latest generation gaming console, the Nintendo Switch, it was also revealed that the next game in the Xeno series, titled Xenoblade Chronicles 2, will be coming out.

There was unfortunately not a lot that was revealed about the game apart from several scenes and screenshots that teased fans of a brand new open world. As per a report from Polygon, the teasers also apparently hints that there will be a new set of characters that players will be able to control and brand new world called Elysium.

During the presentation, it was revealed that Masatsugo Saito was responsible for the character design of the game. He is best known for his work on Expelled from Paradise and Cybord 009: Call of Justice. Tetsuya Takahashi, the co-founder and director for Monolith Soft was also listed as being part of the game's development team. The executive director for the past two games in the Xeno series, namely Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles X, was also revealed to have headed the project for the new sequel.

The original Xenoblade Chronicles action role-playing video game was released back in 2013 for the Wii. Nintendo then released a port for it on the 3DS in 2015. Its spiritual successor, Xenoblade Chronicles X, was released for the Wii U in the same year. Fans of the series will likely be familiar with some of the elements that were showcased in the upcoming sequel's teasers and screenshot, as per Siliconera. The game will apparently still feature the franchise's intricately designed future cities and vast environments, similar to the ones found on the previous titles.

Nintendo has yet to reveal when Xenoblade Chronicles 2 would be coming out, but it was mentioned that it would be released sometime this year for the Nintendo Switch.
