A second television series based on Marvel's X-Men franchise has now been confirmed to be in the works. Fox Network as apparently now ordered a pilot episode to be made for the proposed new series which will have television veteran Matt Nix on board as executive producer.

As mentioned, the new unnamed X-Men television will be the second one to come out right after FX's new X-Men television series, Legion. FX's new television show will be premiering its first episode next month, Feb. 8.

Both shows has been revealed to be taking place in the same general universe as the X-Men movies that have been released so far. However, each once will have their own unique premise, characters, and setting.

The new Marvel X-Men action television series from Fox has been revealed to focus on a mother and a father who are trying to protect their mutant children from government agents who are after them. The family will then encounter a group of other mutants who will be helping them evade capture.

Nix had revealed at the recently held Television Critics Association's winter press tour that the new series will in fact be directly tied in to the X-Men movies, as per Variety. He even teased that fans might even be seeing some familiar faces in future episodes as it could features several characters straight from the movie franchise.

According to Deadline, Nix' script for the new series had apparently impressed Fox execs, which is why they immediately green lit a pilot episode for it. Depending on the outcome of the pilot episode, an entire season may then be ordered by the network if it sees potential in it. Other big name Hollywood backers that are involved in the project includes producers Simon Kinberg, Jeph Loeb, Jim Chory, and Lauren Shuler Donner.

The new X-Men television series will be Fox' second attempt at creating a show based on the popular franchise. The first attempt was a show called Hellfire, which was unfortunately scrapped in favor of another series back in 2015.
