Shia LaBeouf's performance art piece, HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US, has been shut down by the Museum of the Moving Image.

LaBeouf had a performance art project called HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US scheduled to run on a live stream for four years, but this has been cut short by about three years and 11 months. The project featured LaBeouf and everyday citizens chanting "He will not divide us" in front of a camera in reference to President Donald Trump.

The actor was arrested a few days into the project for getting into an altercation with someone, and the Museum of the Moving Image is now shutting the project down.

"The installation created a serious and ongoing public safety hazard for the Museum, its visitors, staff, local residents, and businesses. The installation had become a flashpoint for violence and was disrupted from its original intent," says a new statement from the Museum.

"While the installation began constructively, it deteriorated markedly after one of the artists was arrested on the site of the installation and ultimately necessitated this action," the statement continues. "Over the course of the installation, there have been dozens of threats of violence and numerous arrests, such that police felt compelled to be stationed outside the installation 24 hours a day, seven days a week."

The Museum of the Moving Image does not regret the project, however, noting that it was "an engaging and thought-provoking digital art installation" that "generated an important conversation allowing interaction among people from many backgrounds and with different viewpoints."

The Museum stated that they did not want to risk the safety of the 200,000 annual visitors and 50,000 school children who attend their programs.

HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US was installed on the day of President Trump's inauguration on Jan. 20 and was intended to last through the four years of his term.
