The Award-winning director Guillermo del Toro previously announced on social media that he was indeed going to be taking steps to ensure that a third "Hellboy" movie was going to be produced. However, the creator of the "Hellboy" franchise may not have been happy with how del Toro went about his plans, which has resulted in the official cancellation of "Hellboy 3."

The announcement that "Hellboy 3" was no longer going to be produced was made through del Toro's official Twitter account, as per a report from Slash Film. The director firmly told fans that the highly-awaited final installment in the "Hellboy" franchise was a hundred percent off the table.

The "Pan's Labyrinth" director apologized to fans regarding his failure to keep his promise just a few weeks ago about sitting down with the franchise's creator Mike Mignola and actor Ron Perlman to make the movie happen. Their negotiations regarding the production of the sequel apparently went sour at some point, leading to all parties agreeing to cancel the project.

The "Hellboy" creator then clarified his side of the story in an interview with French publication Le Figaro, claiming that he was just not happy with del Toro's actions on social media. Mignola revealed that he and Perlman had been discussing the prospect of a third movie, but del Toro's "show" on the internet ruined his plans. He then further explained that he and del Toro have now gone to different directions since "Hellboy 2" and that he no longer sees himself working with him on any future projects.

This is of course quite a devastating news for "Hellboy" fans as the movie series itself still remains unfinished. There is still the matter of Hellboy's involvement in the apocalypse as well as other unanswered questions that remain. Fortunately, those who are seeking to have closure can still pick up Mignola's original "Hellboy" comic books, which had just recently concluded and featured a proper ending for the character.
