"Call of Duty" is a massive multi-billion dollar franchise that puts Activision on the gaming map every year. Every "Call of Duty" title released since 2007 has achieved more than $500 million in sales, with recent titles stacking as much as $1 billion. This time around, Sledgehammer Games is at the helm, and the studio dev Glen Schofield has dropped some sweet hints about the upcoming "Call of Duty" 2017.

In a Tweet made on 16th of February, Glen has stated that the series would be going back to its roots. Sledgehammer Games would be in charge of the "Call of Duty" 2017 before the series heads back into the hands of developer studio Treyarch for 2018.

In a reply to a fan, the developer has stated that the new "Call of Duty" 2017 will make gamers go nuts. While this makes many fans skeptical, fans can remain hopeful as the developer is confident that taking the series back to its roots will generate great critical acclaim.

The "Call of Duty" franchise has been popular around the world for its action packed fast paced gun fights, with a couple of set piece film like sequences that make the game visually appealing to gamers. The series started with its take on World War II, and it seems like "Call of Duty" 2017 would be heading back to this era.

Although still unconfirmed about the setting of the upcoming "Call of Duty" 2017, it can be concluded that Sledgehammer Games would want to deliver something that triumphs over the less critically acclaimed "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare", which took the series to outer space. The 2016 installment was criticized to have forgotten its roots and gamers all around the world were unhappy with the game. The trailer for the 2016 installment is one of the most disliked videos of 2016 on YouTube.

As of now, there are still more than nine months until the release of the new "Call of Duty" 2017, and the first look of the newest game can be had during its reveal trailer, which would come a few months before the official release. Gamers around the world are waiting patiently with their fingers crossed. Can Sledgehammer Games deliver the best "Call of Duty" experience yet?
