"The Vampire Diaries" was first premiered in 2009, however, the TV series has broken many hearts by announcing its end in 2016. But still, after a year of its final season, its fans never left and even hoped for more. Fortunately, the hit supernatural drama hints about its comeback together with lead stars, Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder.

"The Vampire Diaries" was not just popular in the US, in fact, it's known worldwide. Despite its heartbreaking ending in Oct. 2016, fans of Dobrev and Somerhalder expected for its return. As Inquisitr reported, there are rumors claiming that "The Anomaly" star and "The Final Girls" actress are reuniting together with the supernatural drama series casts for an unnamed project. Whatever it is, fans are surely excited!

In 2009, fans were devastated when Dobrev decided to leave the show. Bulgarian actress had played Elena Gilbert for an astounding six years and it's no surprise why fans kept on questioning her decision. However, the rumored girlfriend of Glen Powell knew more than any other people who expects her to play the role for the rest of her life.

"It's been a great journey, but at the end of the day, I'm not actually a vampire," Dobrev said to The Hollywood Reporter. "The fairy tale has to end, and the next chapter has to begin."

Although Somerhalder's former girlfriend had opted to leave the show, she said that she's grateful for the time spent with "The Vampire Diaries." She also stated her desire to reprise her role as Elena for closure purposes. Fortunately, the show granted her wish and Gilbert came back to life in Season 8.

Meanwhile, after a few months of its final episode, Asia Star News reported about the reunion of Dobrev and Somerhalder. However, no one nor any of their representatives confirmed about these speculations. Therefore, fans of TWD should not expect much instead, hope that indeed, it will return.
