Aaron Hernandez’s fiancé Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez, has taken legal action against NFL team, New England Patriots, just months after he took his own life.

Shayanna was pretty much at the center of Aaron’s murder trial as he was accused of a double homicide, that he was found not guilty for. Still, he was serving a life sentence for the murder of Odin Lloyd, when he took his life inside his prison cell on April 19.

Now, Shayanna said the NFL could have prevented it had they acknowledged Aaron had a brain disease, CTE.

She sued the team in Massachusetts “on behalf” of the daughter she and Aaron had together, TMZ reported Thursday.

“Aaron had stage 3 CTE usually seen in players with a median age of death of 67 years,” she stated in court documents obtained by the publication.

She added that the Patriots knew the connection between CTE and suicide attempts but didn’t tell Aaron.

“[The Patriots] were fully aware of the damage that could be inflicted from repetitive impact injuries and failed to disclose, treat or protect him from the dangers of such damage.”

Shayanna continued and said she and their child want “redress for the loss of parental consortium she has experienced based on the negligent conduct of Defendants that deprived her of the companionship and society of her father, Aaron Hernandez…”

She added, “On April 19, 2017, Aaron succumbed to the symptoms of CTE and committed suicide.”

While Aaron’s suicide was certainly shocking, it was reported that it also subsequently led to abatement for the NFL star. Under Massachusetts law, when someone dies before their appeal to the conviction is heard, a judge has to remove the convictions. This is under the notion that the appeals court could have very well overturned the conviction. Despite Aaron’s death being his choice, a Superior Court Judge in Massachusetts, Susan Garsh, removed his murder conviction in May.

This not only means that the victim’s family will have a hard time using his previous conviction in a civil lawsuit against him, but he could pass on his assets to his and Shayanna’s daughter.
