From the highly anticipated return of Selena Gomez to Christina Aguilera's riveting tribute to Whitney Houston, the 2017 American Music Awards did not disappoint us! There were plenty of highs and also a few lows, but nonetheless, the show did what it does best — bring together America's greatest entertainers for an unforgettable evening!

Let's check out some of the highlights of the night!

Selena Gomez

The singer shook the red carpet with her newest and edgier look. Gomez is now rocking blonde hair and wore a black, leather mini-dress by Coach when she arrived to the AMAs. Gomez switched it up again on stage during the performance of her newest song, Wolves, by wearing a sexy, slip dress, sneakers and Tiffany necklace. The performance, overall, received a mixed reception. While it was a remarkable return for the 25-year-old artist, who just had a kidney transplant, it was also a little strange. The fake blood, the car accident scene, and the assumption that Gomez was lip-singing the entire time, definitely raises some eyebrows as to what Gomez's intentions were. Nonetheless, Selena is back and stronger than ever!

Christina Aguilera

Another highly-anticipated return was that of Christina Aguilera. It was announced earlier this month, that the singer was chosen to pay homage to the late Whitney Houston and celebrate the 25th anniversary of the album, The BodyGuard. It was mentioned throughout the years that Houston was very fond of Aguilera and her vocal ability after witnessing the Genie in Bottle songstress perform one of her songs back in 2001. Of course, we all felt the same way, not too many singers can handle the range and power Houston delivered in her songs. Aguilera sang her heart out as she covered, I Will Always Love You, I'm Every Woman, I Have Nothing, and Run To You. Like Gomez's performance, Aguilera received mixed and harsh criticism from fans on Twitter; however, she did manage to move fellow singer, Pink, to tears and receive accolades from her former enemy turned friend.

Pink and Kelly Clarkson

Speaking of Pink, the dynamic singer brought the house down with Kelly Clarkson, as the two covered the R.E.M hit, Everybody Hurts. It seems almost unfair that two of the music industry's most powerful singers teamed up and moved everyone with their rendition, but honestly, who's complaining? The beautiful performance was just as raw and emotional as the original. Pink surprised us again when she performed her single, Beautiful Trauma, while spiraling down, sideways, from the ceiling. We shouldn't be shocked by this as Pink has done this before, but each time is more mesmerizing then the last. Bravo Pink, bravo.

Linkin Park

The alternative rock group took home the award for 'Favorite Artist-Alternative Rock', which was a somber win for the remaining members of Linkin Park. The band dedicated the award to its lead singer, the late Chester Bennington, while thanking the fans for helping them get through what still is a difficult moment for them. "We want to dedicate this award to him, to his memory, to his talent, to his sense of humor, to his joy. And remember, you guys, all of you, tonight, whether you are a fan or an artist, I want you guys to take a moment to appreciate what you've got and make Chester proud. Thank you guys so much," Mike Shonada said in his acceptance speech.

Diana Ross

Perhaps the real winner of the award show was the legendary Ms Diana Ross. She was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award and gracefully accepted it with her entire family present. Ross was acknowledged by former President Barack Obama, fellow Motown singer, Smokey Robinson, and her daughter Tracee Ellis Ross. The iconic singer performed some of her greatest hits such as: I'm Coming Out and Ain't No Mountain High Enough. "This is all about love. This is my family and I'm sending love to all of you. I really, really love being here and I feel so humbled by this. I love you so very much," Ross stated while accepting her award.
