Comedian Hannibal Buress was taken into custody on Saturday, Dec. 9, by the Miami Police Department on charges of disorderly intoxication.

Disorderly Intoxication Charge

Buress was placed under arrest in the Wynwood neighborhood of Miami on a disorderly intoxication charge at approximately 2 a.m. and was released on a $500 bail bond about four hours later.

According to The Miami Herald, the comedian was taken into custody following an encounter with a police officer. It all started when Buress approached the officer with bloodshot eyes and a strong smell of alcohol on his breath, asking the police to call him an Uber. However, the officer refused, which allegedly led to Buress becoming aggressive.

In his incident report, the officer said he then told the comedian to leave but Buress did not pay heed to the officer and instead walked into a nearby venue. The officer then followed him inside because he felt the comedian was too intoxicated to stick around.

"Once outside, the defendant stood by the front gate and continued yelling profanities," the officer's report says. "I, then again, asked him to leave the area about five times. A crowd began to gather and vehicular traffic slowed as they watched the defendant yelling and being disorderly. Defendant arrested."

All Over Social Media

The Miami PD confirmed news of Buress' arrest on a disorderly intoxication charge after filmmaker Billy Corben tweeted them seeking answers.

Corben's tweet came in the wake of a video of the comedian's arrest that started circulating on social media. The video, which appears to have been shot on a bystander's cellphone, shows Buress handcuffed against a Miami patrol car with two police officers standing in front of him.

The comedian appears to be agitated and can be heard asking the officers the reason behind his arrest. The video footage went viral and spurred the #FreeHannibalBuress hashtag on social media as officers on the scene told Buress he was being detained for trespassing. However, it was later confirmed that he booked on a disorderly intoxication charge.

Buress is a popular comedian and has featured in a number of stand-up specials. He has also starred in several films including Spider-man: Homecoming, Baywatch, Neighbors, Daddy's Home, and The Disaster Artist. His television credits include Comedy Central's Broad City and Adult Swim's The Eric Andre Show.

He is also known as the comic who famously called Bill Cosby a rapist on stage before several women came forward with sexual assault allegations against The Cosby Show star.
