Disney and Lucasfilm's Star Wars: The Last Jedi dominated the box office over the Christmas holiday and is nearing the $400 million mark domestically.

There is usually a slump in movie watching during the holiday season, as people are busy with holiday parties and preparations in the days leading up to Christmas. However, The Last Jedi still managed to lure moviegoers and maintained the top spot at the Christmas box office.

This doesn't come as a surprise as the film has been lauded by critics and audiences alike. The film picked up a 92 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an A by moviegoers on CinemaScore.

The Last Jedi Nears $400 Million Domestically

The Last Jedi hauled in $100.7 million over the long holiday weekend from 4,232 locations in North America, taking its domestic total to $397.3 million.

The new installment of George Lucas' epic space opera franchise raked in an estimated $32 million on Christmas Day, which is the second highest total ever on the day. 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens claims the number one position with $49.3 million and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story comes in third place after trailing The Last Jedi by at least $6 million.

Performance At The International Box Office

Director Rian Johnson's distinctive take on the sci-fi franchise grossed $75.1 million at the overseas box office from 55 international markets over the holiday weekend, pushing its global haul to a whopping $745.5 million.

The film's overseas box office performance has helped Disney cross the $6 billion milestone at the global box office for the second time, a feat no other studio has been able to achieve.

Jumanji Ranks Second At The Christmas Box Office

Sony's Jumanji remake exceeded box office expectations to claim the second rank at the Christmas box office. The film earned an estimated $52 million from 3,765 North American locations over the holiday weekend after opening in theaters on Dec. 20.

The film, which stars Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Karen Gillan, Nick Jonas, and Bobby Cannavale, is a re-telling of the hit Robin Williams film of the same name, which was released 22 years ago.
