While Justin Timberlake received mixed reactions for his performance at the Super Bowl Sunday, breakout rapper Cardi B explained why fans won’t see her hitting the stage for the NFL event anytime soon. Cardi B is a rapper in high demand after her successful hits "Bodak Yellow" and the "Finesse" remix with Bruno Mars.

Cardi B Stands With Kaepernick

Cardi B may be the new kid on the block, but she had no problem giving the NFL a demand before she ever agreed to perform for the organization. Interestingly enough, she made her statement while at Maxim’s Super Bowl party.

Photographers caught up with Cardi B at the celebrity-filled party and asked her when she would be hitting the stage for the halftime show. She kept her answer short, simple, and to the point.

“When they hire Colin Kaepernick back,” said Cardi.

This isn’t the first time she’s defended the former NFL star quarterback. She also spoke on the issue in September when it became clear that Kaepernick would not be signed to an NFL team this season.

“All these football team owners talking and all lat but when is y’all going to hire Colin Kaepernick?” Cardi questioned on Twitter.

She sent a similar tweet just moments later.

NFL vs. Kaepernick

The NFL received lots of backlash from fans and celebrities alike after Kaepernick found himself without a job. Playing for the San Francisco 49ers at the time, Kaepernick was the first NFL player to kneel during the National Anthem in hopes of bringing attention to the police brutality and police-involved shootings that were happening around the nation.

Even though he garnered lots of support, there wasn’t an NFL team who picked him up amid the attention. Things got even uglier when President Donald Trump encouraged owners of the professional football league to give players the axe if they took a knee during the National Anthem.

Cardi B isn’t the only one who reportedly won’t perform at the Super Bowl because of the NFL’s issues with Kaepernick. Rumors swirled in September that Jay-Z also said no to the NFL’s offer for him to perform for the coveted halftime show.

The NFL later released a statement that they hadn’t yet decided who was going to perform. It was announced weeks later that Timberlake would be the halftime show performer. Because of the controversy surrounding the NFL, he was met with his own backlash as well.
