Rock and Roll Hall of Fame singer Paul Simon announced on Monday, Feb. 5, that he will be hanging up his boots after his next tour.

The singer not only enjoyed success as a solo artist but also as one half of the folk-rock duo Simon & Garfunkel, delivering chart-topping hits including "The Sound of Silence," "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and "You Can Call Me Al."

Simon is the latest musician to announce retirement from touring after the likes of Elton John, Neil Diamond, and Ozzy Osbourne among others.

Simon's Final Tour

In a statement posted on his official website, the legendary musician revealed that his final tour, Homeward Bound - The Farewell Tour, will kick off in the spring.

"I've often wondered what it would feel like to reach the point where I'd consider bringing my performing career to a natural end," he said. "Now I know: it feels a little unsettling, a touch exhilarating and something of a relief."

He added that while it is not the only reason, the demise of his close friend and lead guitarist Vincent N'guini, who passed away in December, helped him with his decision to retire from touring.

The 76-year-old musician also noted that the time he spends on the road is time that he cannot spend with his wife and his family, which takes away the "joy of playing."

He also expressed his gratitude to people around the world who came to watch him perform over the last five decades.

Fortunately for fans, he pointed out that even though his upcoming tour will draw the curtains on his 50-year career on stage, he will continue to perform occasionally and donate the proceeds to charitable organizations that work towards saving the planet.
