Several days after winning big at the 2018 Academy Awards, Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro has revealed that he ended his marriage.

The Shape of Divorce

According to People Magazine, The Shape of Water director divorced his wife, Lorenza Newton, in 2017. Del Toro revealed to Mexican media outlet Reforma their decision to divorce after they were married for several years.

"I separated in February [of 2017] and divorced in September. But few people knew," said del Toro to Reforma in a conversation that was transcribed by People Magazine.

Del Toro was forced to reveal the status of his relationship when fans began questioning why the Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army director walked the Academy Awards' red carpet without Newton or his daughters, Marisa and Mariana. W Magazine reported that del Toro did indeed walk the Oscars' red carpet with his latest writing partner Kim Morgan. Morgan and del Toro are working on an upcoming movie called Nightmare Alley.

"She is working with me, we have a nice friendship. In case some news appears, let's clarify that I separated in February [2017]. I started working with her at the end of the summer," said Del Toro to Reforma in a statement that was transcribed by W Magazine.

Del Toro and Newton were married in 1986. Neither the film director nor Newton has decided to provide additional comments concerning the divorce.

Belushi and Sloan were married for nearly 20 years.
