Remember the late Prince's cameo on New Girl in one episode? Actress Zooey Deschanel finally spills the beans on how that happened.

Deschanel revealed the juicy and funny bit of the story when she was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where she also promoted the final season of the hit Fox series New Girl. Apparently, the late pop icon was the biggest fan of the show.

Odd Email

It all started when the show's star, Deschanel, received a rather odd email from a person claiming to be Prince's manager. The message read that the legendary singer wanted "2 B" in the show, which was the exact way the sender wrote the letter.

At first thought, Deschanel explained she felt it was a joke. Who wouldn't? Finding a "2 B" in a supposed letter of intention is the farthest thing one could imagine in a legit, formal letter. The 500 Days of Summer actress then had the person researched on, and lo and behold, it really was Prince's manager.

Big Fan

Deschanel then went on to narrate how Prince came across New Girl and how hooked he got in the sitcom. She also referred to the multitalented late singer as "a good actor," who is overall a "cool guy."

"[R]andomly, Prince found the show, and he was watching it every week with his band, and they'd watch it on tour, and it was like he couldn't miss it, and they were really invested in the Nick and Jess relationship. It was just one of those really surreal moments," she said.

No Plan B

Prince appeared on the show in Season 3, Episode 14 in 2014. He was giving advice on Deschanel's Jess. However, the 38-year-old revealed that the show wasn't at all sure whether the musician will come true to his promise of appearing on the show. Nobody had an inkling if he'll indeed show up and the New Girl team had no back-up plan if he'll cancel last minute.

Fortunately, Prince obviously came through and appeared on the show, which Deschanel regards as her life's highlight. It wasn't just the cast and team of New Girl who felt happy about this, the ratings showed that there were a lot who felt ecstatic over his guest stint!

Numbers say that from 3 to 4 million viewers, it increased to a whopping 26 million! Pretty sure it was a win-win situation for New Girl, including Deschanel, Prince, and everyone who watched the sitcom.
