Matt Lauer has confronted sexual assault allegations since he was fired from NBC’s Today. Lauer denied any inappropriate actions toward former female coworkers.

Matt Speaks Out

Lauer, who released an initial statement after the accusations made headlines back in November, has shut down any allegations against him. He didn’t confront the claims even if they were untrue because he wanted to protect his family from public shame, he explained. He has decided to speak out now to set the record straight on accusations that he sexually assaulted a former female colleague.

“I fully acknowledge that I acted inappropriately as a husband, father and principal at NBC,” said Lauer. “However I want to make it perfectly clear that any allegations or reports of coercive, aggressive or abusive actions on my part, at any time, are absolutely false.”

A Pattern Of Sexual Misconduct

Lauer was accused of being sexually inappropriate with a with a female worker back in 2014. One of the incidents allegedly occurred during their coverage of the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Other women claimed that Lauer harassed them. Their identities have not been released to the public as yet.

Interestingly enough, Lauer’s now former coworker, Ann Curry, said she heard news of Lauer’s alleged behavior in the past. She told the story of a woman who approached her crying and said Lauer “sexually harassed” her. The woman was concerned that coming forward with the accusations against Lauer, who had been with NBC for more than 20 years at the time of his firing, would cause her to lose her job, Curry said.

Curry added that she spoke with the network’s management team and warned them about Lauer’s interactions with women. She also advised them to monitor him, she continued.

The former NBC host's ex-coworker Hoda Kotb revealed she still has a good friendship with Lauer even after the allegations came to light.

His Wife's Decision

Meanwhile, Lauer's wife, Annette Roque, filed for divorce shortly after the accusations went public. Word is Lauer has been living in the Hamptons as he hardly communicated with his now-estranged wife. Roque reportedly kicked him out of the home they shared with their three children. Lauer refused to leave at first, but recent reports confirmed he moved out for good.
