Sam Smith sings about being too good at saying goodbye. Now, it seems that he is doing exactly that as he puts an end to his relationship with Brandon Flynn.

Calling It Quits

The two have been dating for nine months, but they reportedly called it quits last week. They started seeing each other shortly before Smith's second record, The Thrill Of It All, was released in November of last year.

The 26-year-old singer noticeably deleted several pics of him and Flynn from his Instagram, leading fans to wonder what was up. A source close to him claimed it was that old chestnut, competing schedules, which ended things up for Smith and actor Flynn.

"Sam and Brandon had a real whirlwind romance. They really fell for each other. But they are both so busy with their careers and unfortunately things just haven't worked out," revealed the insider.

As to how the notoriously emotional Smith is coping with the split, the "Too Good at Goodbyes" singer is unsurprisingly taking it pretty hard.

"Sam is obviously devastated. This is the most significant relationship he has ever had," the source said.

Smith is currently touring the United States and will be on the road until the end of the year. 13 Reasons Why actor Flynn was just in Britain to visit him, with the two enjoying dates at theme park Alton Towers, as well as catching "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" at the theater.

Flynn also reportedly introduced the singer to his parents earlier this year. The 24-year-old plays troubled teen Justin in the hit Netflix show.

He was spotted last weekend at New York Pride with co-star Tommy Dorfman, while Smith was hanging out in Boston ahead of playing there Tuesday evening.

Where Did It All Go Wrong?

Neither party has publicly confirmed the split as of yet. However, both of them have posted interesting Instagram Stories lately, seemingly in reference to it.

The 13 Reasons Why actor posted an Allen Ginsberg quote about making the private world public, while Smith shared that he was listening to a song called "I Miss You."

Back in January, Smith gushed about how well their relationship was going, explaining how much it meant to him.

"I'm in a relationship right now and for the first time, I think I deserve to be happy," he said.

The singer even joked that he might pen some more upbeat love songs soon enough. His previous relationship with another actor, Jonathan Zeizel, was also short-lived. The two broke things off back in 2015.

Smith is known for writing desperately sad love songs in his debut album In The Lonely Hour, which focused on unrequited love. The hit album sold over 12 million copies and netted the singer four Grammy Awards.
