Michelle Williams is a married woman. The Oscar-nominated actress reveals she tied the knot with her beau Phil Elverum in secret.

Living With Her Loss

The notoriously private star opened up in a brand new interview with Vanity Fair, during which she discussed motherhood, keeping the memory of her dearly departed ex, and father to her young daughter, Heath Ledger alive, and the safety of her current romantic relationship.

Williams has been dedicated to keeping the life of her 12-year-old daughter, Matilda Rose, as normal as possible in the wake of her father's death.

She also ensured the little girl knows that Ledger loved her mother very much and that the two were very happy together.

"I always say to Matilda, 'Your dad loved me before anybody thought I was talented, or pretty, or had nice clothes,' " revealed Williams during the lengthy chat.

The Dark Knight star passed away in New York City back in 2008, after taking a fatal mix of prescription drugs. Matilda was only 2 at the time.

He and Williams met on the set of Brokeback Mountain and dated for about three years, although they'd been separated for a few months at the time of his death.

The actress and mother of one admitted it's been difficult and at times scary to raise Matilda all alone in the wake of Ledger's untimely death. She's very proud of having provided their daughter with a normal environment as a result.

Williams noted that she ensures summer time is less regulated and more dedicated to the two of them spending quality time relaxing together.

A Transformative Love

In relation to indie musician Elverum, the actress was quick to point out how their relationship has changed how she parents her daughter.

"I parent to let Matilda feel free to be herself, and I am finally loved by someone who makes me feel free," she gushed of her new hubby.

Elverum himself lost his wife, Geneviève Castrée, to cancer when his daughter Agathe was just a year old.

He and Williams got married in secret in the Adirondacks. The intimate ceremony was attended by their daughters and a handful of close friends only.

"Obviously I've never once in my life talked about a relationship. But Phil isn't anyone else. And that's worth something. Ultimately the way he loves me is the way I want to live my life on the whole," the actress explained.

Williams joins a growing group of celebrities choosing to say their vows in private, from Cardi B and Offset to Amy Schumer and her chef partner Chris Fischer.
