You can't take the skies from the Firefly franchise.

The first day of San Diego Comic Con kicked off today and with it came the announcement that the fan favorite Firefly will soon be docking in the online gaming world.

Canceled after one season by Fox, the Joss Whedon created program garnered such a dedicated fan base of Browncoats that it managed to snag a movie deal for Serenity and now the Verse will be coming to your phones and tablets.

Set to release in 2014, Firefly Online will allow players to create and captain their own ship, find a crew, and take on jobs. Backed by QMx and Fox Digital Entertainment, the game will be released on iOS and Android.

"At QMx, we know firsthand how great and powerful a franchise Firefly is and how mighty the Browncoats are," said Andy Gore, CEO of QMXi and Quantum Mechanix Inc., according to ComicBook.com. "It has always been our mission to bring the Verse to life for our customers in every way possible. The idea of creating an interactive experience where fans can have their own Firefly adventures-well, that's just too shiny for words."

Gamers can find out more and preregister for the game at KeepFlying.com.
