Despite its current hiatus, Netflix's House of Cards continues to garner a plethora of interest for its sophomore season. To add to the anticipation, the TV series has even received nine Emmy nominations.

The New York Times recently had the opportunity to interview actor Kevin Spacey (Francis Underwood) on July 20, who spoke about the show's mind-blowing success.

"It's pretty great, pretty great for the show. We got nine nominations, which is extraordinary because we are the new kids on the block. But also, there were all these questions swirling around: 'Would we be able to break through because of the way the show is distributed?'"

Spacey, whose Internet series has clearly paving the way for scripted web programming, also elaborated on his character's traits and how they tie into modern politics.

"Francis is an incredibly complex character; and maybe, to some degree, there's always been a fascination with American politics and how it's treated in entertainment. We're a nation fascinated with politics, particularly at a time when there's such a gridlock in Washington, D.C."

Although no airdate has officially been announced, Netflix's House of Cards is slated to launch its season 2 on the Internet at some point in early 2014. Be sure to keep checking back for more of the latest information.
