Neil Gaiman has conquered the worlds of novels, comics, and television, and now the author is heading into the world of videogames.

From the mind that created American Gods, Sandman, and various Doctor Who scripts comes a spooky game titled Wayward Manor.

Due to be released this autumn, the first person tale revolves around a 1920's New England estate where you, as the dead protagonists, reside in a spectral form. When a cast of living characters invades your peaceful resting place, you must find a way to send them fleeing in fright.

"For quite a while there's been a story that I've wanted to tell; something inspired by the kinds of films I loved when I was a kid," Gaiman said in an introduction video on the game's new site. "Things like Arsenic and Old Lace, Blithe Spirit, The Man Who Came to Dinner."

However, Gaiman found this was an adventure he could not simply pen.

"I kept running into the same problem: it didn't really feel like a novel," the writer explains. "It felt like something that you would have to experience yourself."

Gaiman teamed up with The Odd Gentleman, creators of The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom, in order to develop the project for PCs, Macs, and tablets. As fans wait for the release, there are various merch packages they can indulge in while simultaneously helping to fund the project, much like a Kickstarter.

The website lists purchase options ranging from the affordable $10 digital copy of the game to the supremely expensive $10,000 dinner with the author himself.
