A new series coming to Showtime, The Man Who Fell To Earth, has dropped the first trailer. If the name sounds familiar that is because the show is based on the book of the same title, written by Walter Tevis, and continues the story of Thomas Jerome Newton, a role played by singer David Bowie in 1976.

Taking over the character is actor Bill Nighy, who joined the cast only a few weeks ago. He is joined by actors Naomie Harris and Chiwetel Ejiofor. The story revolves around Justin Falls (Harris) who works hard to scrape out a living while taking care of her child only to team up with Faraday (Ejiofor), an alien who has come to Earth to offset the destruction of both this and his own world. Newton, who failed in his initial mission to do the same, decides to help them succeed where he failed years previous.

Other cast members include Kate Mulgrew of Star Trek: Voyager and Orange is the New Black, as well as Jimmi Simpson of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia and West World. The show is helmed by Alex Kurtzman, who is in charge of the slew of Star Trek shows streaming on Paramount+.

The trailer plays as a bleak, somber sci-fi drama, with elements of the superb alien character design made famous by series like Star Trek, so it is good to see this continuation is in proper hands in that respect.

The Man Who Fell To Earth will premiere on Showtime on April 24th, but until then you can get a sneak peek below.
