Many do not look back fondly over the last few years.

Since the pandemic hit and turned everything upside-down, people have remained relatively upset at the world around them. Plans got canceled, lives were lost, entire worlds were uprooted.

However, within every downside, it is important to try to find the light.

Now, am I saying that we need to hunt to find a way to sugar coat the last few years so that we can all go along pretending that everything is perfectly okay? No. That is not what I am saying. We are not trying to gloss over everything here, but it's important to remember that there has been a good moment or so that has come out of this consistently trying time.

Here are eight positive things that have managed to squeak their way out of this pandemic.

1.Ben Stiller and Christine Taylor Got Back Together

Ben Stiller recently revealed in an Esquire article that he and his five-years separated wife got back together due to the pandemic. He moved in so that he could be sure to see his children more, and then, one thing let to another. It actually led to even more closeness than you would have imagined (which you can read more about here!)

2. Inside

Inside, the Bo Burnham special, legitimately ONLY happened because of the pandemic. Is it a comedy album that ultimately reflects the sad, weird, depressing, twisting starkness of the past few years BUT it gives it that classic millennial-gen-z nihilistic humor in a *chef's kiss* perfect way.

3. Elyse Myers

No, Elyse Myers wasn't born out of the pandemic, BUT her fame on TikTok was. Honestly, had it not been for being shut inside, we never would have heard about Taco Guy or helping out the school lunch lady or any of the other amazingly hilarious stories!

4. Avril Lavigne is BACK?!

Avril Lavigne fell off of the face of the earth for a while (we can get into pervasive theories about that soon), but with the pandemic she started to make a return. She recorded a cover of her song We Are Warriors to pay tribute to healthcare workers. She then performed at the 2022 NYE show. So, it's pretty safe to say that the pandemic brought Avril Lavigne back!

5. Some Good News

The John-Krasinski-created optimistic news show was the thing we all needed. Even before the pandemic, everyone thought everything was the worst it could be. Then the pandemic hit, and it got worse. Some Good News showed everyone that, even when things seem terrible, there's always at least one good thing to look towards.

6. Grey's Anatomy Got New Legs

Again, we are not trying to make light of the hardship of the past few years, but with all of the goings on in the medical world, this last season of Grey's Anatomy, season 17, has been absolute FIRE.

7. Movies Streaming In Your Home

Remember when you HAD to go to the movie theater. Now you GET to go IF you want to. Movies have started streaming directly to your laptop while also getting theatrical releases. This makes it more accessible for everyone! It also gives everyone a choice, and who doesn't like a choice?

8. Excuse not to leave

Even for those extroverted souls among us, having a built in reason to cancel on every plan is honestly, just what we all needed.

This has been a dark time, but even in the bleakest moments, there are always a few special bright spots that shine through: you just have to look hard enough.
