Selena Gomez is developing a Latinx series version of the 80s classic 16 Candles, and Molly Ringwald could not be more jazzed about it!

Gomez has already had a year filled with absolutely iconic moments. She is one of the leads on Only Murders in the Building, the top rated original Hulu comedy series of all time. She survived an almost nasty fall and took the awards show stage in her bare feet. Now, she is executive producing a modern adaptation of the claassic film 16 Candles.

The new series from Gomez will be titled 15 Candles. The series will begin as four Latnia teens begin high school, and will chronicle their lives, navigating the ups and downs of freshman year and celebrating their quinceañeras.

The series will stream on Peacock. Alongside executive producer Selena Gomez, Tanya Saracho and Gabriela Lugo will also serve as executive producers on the project.

The brat-pack icon and star of the original film 16 Candles, Molly Ringwald, is very excited for this modern adaptation. According to an article with Deadline, while Ringwald is often hesitant when it comes to reboots, she thinks this revitalized concept will be incredible. She excitedly shared:

"I am so happy about that...I really do feel like when people always ask me about rebooting my movies, I am like, 'No those movies were wonderful,' but what they should do is take inspiration from them and do something completely different but inspired, so that just sounds fantastic."

We can't wait to see this series once it comes to Peacock.
