After his stellar return to the big screen reprising his role as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home, it seems Tobey Maguire will be taking on the persona of comedy genius Charlie Chaplin in Damien Chazelle's upcoming film Babylon, in which Maguire is also acting as producer.

This will make him the second Marvel actor to play the role after Robert Downey Jr.

The news was dropped during CinemaCon this week, where the trailer was premiered, revealing who Maguire would be portraying - a well-kept secret up until the event.

Babylon, which is sure to tell a long, sweeping story of old Hollywood, has also kept its plot hush-hush, and is rumored to be an over three-hour affair. (Move over, The Batman.)

The film also stars Katherine Waterston, Brad Pitt, Olivia Wilde, Samera Weaving, Jeff Garlin, Jean Smart, The Red Hot Chili Peppers' Flea, Lukas Haas, SNL's Chloe Fineman, Spike Jonze, and Margot Robbie as Clara Bow - one of the first actresses to make the transition from silent films to talkies.

A serious roster of talent if there ever was one.

Chazelle's past cinematic offerings include Oscar award-winning gems La La Land, Whiplash, and First Man. A strong creative pedigree, to say the least. As stated previously, very little is known about what, exactly, the film will be focused on other than the years of 1920s Hollywood. It will be interesting to see how Chazelle's sharp attention to detail will lend itself to crafting such an iconic period in film history.

Whatever the case, Damien Chazelle's work has proved itself time and time again, leaving little doubt that he might be up for Oscar contention by the next award season.
