Earlier yesterday, Money Heist: Korea - Joint Economic Area dropped both its premiere date and trailer. In more exciting Money Heist-related news, a new teaser trailer for Spanish film Prison 77, featuring Money Heist star Miguel Herran, was just released.

According to Variety, Prison 77 is "a jailbreak movie based on true events, one of the biggest attempted jail-breaks in Spanish history, in 1977, when 45 inmates attempted to break out from Barcelona's Modelo penitentiary along a tunnel dug from the jail's infirmary."

In the Prison 77 trailer, Herran plays a young accountant, who gets sent to Modelo penitentiary due to embezzlement. Conditions are bleak, with Herran being charged 300 pesetas to lodge a complaint against prison management. His cellmate, an aging inmate, asks Herran to help stage a riot to allow him to escape, saying "I want to get out of here." This sets the events of the film in motion.

Directed by Alberto Rodríguez, Prison 77 focuses on an interesting part of Spanish history, when Spain passed an Amnesty Law in October 1977 that granted amnesty to crimes against humanity committed during and after Spain's Civil War. However, the amnesty didn't extend to common law prisoners, like Herran's accountant. Set against this backdrop, Prison 77 is sure to provide insight and critique into Spain's gradual turn towards democracy. We're looking forward to seeing Herran's starring turn in it!

Prison 77 will be released in Spanish theaters on September 23, 2022 as part of Spain's San Sebastian Festival.
