Well, Rob Zombie has taken to Instagram to promote his new reboot film based on The Munsters...and it looks, sort of...not great.

The premise of the film takes place in the early years of the relationship between Herman (Jeff Daniel Phillips), a sweet Frankenstein monster, and Lily (Sheri Moon Zombie), a vampiress who lives with her cranky scientist father Grandpa (Daniel Roebuck).

Normally a hardcore horror director, Zombie's take on the characters feels slightly out of its element here, as he tries his best to chapture the essence of the 1960s television series, with all of its camp and off-beat comedy.

What really stands out is the look of the film. Unlike a similar premise, The Addams Family, which was remade in the 90s to stellar reviews, The Munsters, for being a Universal Pictures Production, looks cheap. From sets, to effects, to the look of the characters, it feels more like a fan film with cosplayers in the leads.

Herman has none of the charming, deep voiced panache that Fred Gwynne brought to the character. Lily is just another excuse to have Sheri Moon Zombie star in her director husband's films. Grandpa's make-up looks like a caked-on Halloween costume. The jokes feel flat, and besides Lost's Jorge Garcia and E.T.'s Dee Wallace, Zombie is pretty much using people he knows - which is fine, but the cast could have gone a bit deeper to find some, if any, recognizable faces.

Listen, it's not usually our thing to downplay a film before release, but the point of a trailer is to get fans excited for what's to come....and this one felt flatter than Herman's skull.
