NOT all labels are good and pleasing to the ears.

The actress, Zooey Deschanel has stood firm as she rejects the "manic pixie dream girl" labeled to her. In an interview with a news outlet, she said, "I don't feel it's accurate."

Deschanel became the face of the female stereotype in film and TV way back mid 2000s and this term is a description of somewhat quirky, nerdy, and attractive female characters whose main purpose was to save their male counterpart or educate them on the meaning of love and life.

The actress continues to elaborate on her objection to the label with which she is being associated.

"I'm not a girl. I'm a woman..."

Deschanel further shares her feelings and thoughts about the "label" which was first created in 2007 by AV Club writer Nathan Rabin.

"It doesn't hurt my feelings, but it's a way of making a woman one-dimensional and I'm not one-dimensional."

She also responded to the question if she is getting fewer roles as a "manic pixie dream girl,"

"I think the tendency is still to make women one-dimensional, so you have to add dimension if you can. The more screen times a female character gets, the more space there is to show complexities, but there has been a shift, so I'm optimistic."

She is associated with MPDG because of the character she played in some movies and series like New Girl, and 500 days of Summer which she worked with the veteran actresses, Natalie Portman in "Garden State" and Kirsten Dunst in "Elizabethtown."

She also notes that her character in the film and series was as "protagonist."

More so, Deschanel, as to being called MPDG in 2018, was nonchalant about the label and said, "I think people just take away what they take away from you and you put yourself out there and play the characters whom you're attracted to. It wasn't something I cultivated."

Deschanel is the co-host of "The Celebrity Dating Game"

The actor's upcoming project is a part of the Sony Pictures version of "Harold and the Purple Crayon," directed by Carlos Saldanha. Ravi Patel, Lil Rel Howery, and Zachary Levi are also featured in the cast.
