'The Valet' Star Eugenio Derbez to Undergo 'Complicated' Surgery Following Mysterious Accident

Veteran actor and filmmaker Eugenio Derbez will reportedly undergo a "complicated" surgery following a mysterious accident, as told by his wife in an Instagram announcement.

The 60 year old star has been known for his acting roles in comedy films, and recently shared the secret to his success in an interview with Deadline in May. He is also known for voice acting in animation films like "The Angry Birds Movie 2" and "The Secret Life of Pets".

In a recent Instagram post, Eugenio's wife, actress Alessandra Rosaldo, posted an announcement addressed to their friends, family, and the media. She revealed that the "The Valet" actor would have to face a complicated, but not life-threatening, surgery.

"He is fine, however the injuries he suffered are delicate and in the next few hours, he will have to undergo surgery. The operation is very complicated, but it does not compromise his health," Alessandra wrote in the open letter. "The recovery process will be long and difficult since he will have to rest for several weeks and then undergo rehabilitation therapies."

While Eugenio's wife emphasized their desire to communicate their current family situation, no details regarding the accident were shared as of now.

Eugenio to Take Social Media Break

Actress Alessandra also expressed that due to the time it will take for her husband to recover, Derbez will be taking a break from social media, and that she will give updates on his behalf to fans.

"I have some work commitments to fulfill that I cannot cancel, but I ask you all with much love, that whatever you want to know about this topic, allow me to communicate it through my social networks. Eugenio will be recovering and maybe for a while he will be away from his social networks and the media." She wrote on the public statement.

Aside from the complicated surgery, Eugenio will take weeks to rest and undergo rehabilitation therapies.

Eugenio Derbez has won several accolades, including Best Actor in a Feature Film for his role in the 2021 film, "CODA" and Imagen's Best Actor - Feature Film in 2018 for "Overboard". This year, he was nominated as Best Actor in a Comedy (Television) for The Valet", which can be streamed on Hulu.
