When she was just 17 years old, Ashley Tropez appeared on the reality series "Beyond Scared Straight" which ran its last episode in 2015. The reality series follows minors undergoing crime prevention programs with the purpose of setting teenagers on a better path and preventing them from ending up behind bars. The series was initially inspired by the 1978 documentary film, "Scared Straight!"

Tropez had been featured on the reality show for being identified as a gang member and for allegedly "fighting, getting in trouble and selling weed" during that time. In an interview with The Sun, Tropez reveals that despite her time at "Beyond Scared Straight", the show did not have a big impact on her as she retains the same attitude a year after her appearance on the series.

"I'm still the same person," Tropez stated in an interview. "I just be everywhere, from friends to family's houses. Just chilling."

"Beyond Scared Straight" first premiered in 2009 on the A&E network. The series has since profiled 331 teenagers in 29 prisons and jails. Notably, the documentary has also won accolades from The Academy and multiple Emmy awards.
