Homeland may have a slightly different feel when season 3 premieres in September.

Bert Salke, president of Homeland's production company Fox21, revealed to The Hollywood Reporter in a Wednesday report that season 3 of Homeland would feel like an updated show.

"The challenge is to transfer to 'Homeland 2.0,'" Salke explained. "There are bigger developments character-wise this year than there have been. The best Homeland script that I've ever seen writing-wise was this year . . . And I think they're playing at that level."

Homeland received two Emmy nominations in the past for writing: one for the Pilot in season 1, which they won, and the other for Q&A from season 2.

Salke promised that the show will be more "emotional" this year and will include more characters.

"It's a very big development season for Mandy Patinkin's Saul, and for Quinn [Rupert Friend], too. And as opposed to the way some things went down last year, there are definitive answers here - and a development that nobody is thinking about that is personal and awesome."

Salke's comments come days after Damian Lewis, who plays Sgt. Nicholas Brody on the show, revealed a few details about season 3. There will be moments in the new season where viewers will question whether or not Brody wants to live, Lewis told Access Hollywood recently. "Uppermost in his mind is his family, always. But, honestly, at this point, if he's caught, he's going to the chair."

Brody was last seen at the end of the season 2 finale escaping the United States after being framed as the culprit for the bombing at Langley, Va. Lewis revealed that the pressure Brody feels to stay alive will "make him crumble" in season 3.

Season 3 of Homeland premieres Sunday, Sept. 29 at 9 p.m. on Showtime.
