Former executive Xu Yao from the sci-fi Netflix series '3 Body Problem' was sentenced to death for the murder of its producer, which took place nearly three years ago.

Lin Qui founded Yoozoo Games in 2009, which owns all the rights for any adaptation of the Chinese series, which debuted on Netflix on March 21.

The court stated Yao was known as a esteemed lawyer who ultimately became professional rivals with Qui before being sidelined following his assistance in bringing the Netflix deal to life in 2020.

According to Business Insider, the Shanghai First Intermediate People's Court found former executive Yao, 43, guilty of poisoning Lin Qui, 39, resulting in his death.

Qui decided to use other executives to spearhead business operations, and according to reports, Yao didn't take his replacement lightly. Just months after the rift started between the two — Qui was dead. The dispute led to Yao tampering with Qui's food, allegedly sickening him by poisoning a cup of his pu'erh tea.

Yahoo News reported that Yao acquired lethal substances and disguised them as probiotics before giving them to Qui.

Qui, formerly known as China's "Billionaire Millennial," reportedly felt unwell after taking the pills, checking himself into a hospital. Despite his initial stable condition, his health took a dramatic turn. He died 10 days after his arrival.
