NCIS: Los Angeles is gearing up for its season 5 premiere with an episode that promises to take your breath away.

CBS has released a new trailer for the season opener that will keep fans on the edge of their seats as they wait for the program's return.

When viewers last left Callen's (Chris O'Donnell) team following the events of "Descent," Sam (LL Cool J) and Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) were in grave danger. The season's first episode, "Ascension," will pick up in the moments directly following the finale with the two agents being tortured at the hands of Siderov (Timothy V. Murphy) .

"The interesting thing is we pick it up straight away but we end - this is a little bit exclusive in its own way - we end the episode some time later," said series creator Shane Brennan, according to Xfinity. "It is not a few days later. It is weeks and weeks and weeks later."

The new promo has dropped a few new hints regarding the state of the missing agents. Most notably, it appears both Sam and Deeks will be shot. Meanwhile, fans will see Kensi (Daniela Ruah) come to the rescue.

However, the events of the finale and the premiere will leave all the members of the Los Angeles team in a state of emotional trauma.

Recently, Olsen posted a photo of Deeks recovering from his wounds in the hospital.

"My favorite scene with @llcoolj ever. So simple, so heartbreaking. #ncisla# #seasonpremiere."
