Supernatural has been treating its fans to a long string of promos, and today's is sponsored by the King of Hell.

With the season 9 premiere only a week away, it's time for a Crowley status update, courtesy of actor Mark Sheppard. When viewers last saw the reigning demon, he was in a bit of a predicament.

Used as a pawn in the Winchester brothers' attempt to close the Gates of Hell, Crowley was mere seconds from begin cured of his demon state before Dean (Jensen Ackles) convinced Sam (Jared Padalecki) that the trials were not worth losing his life over. Instead of completing the task that would ultimately result in his demise, Sam opted to leave Crowley is some form of a half-cured, limbo state.

When the new season picks up with "I Think I'm Gonna Like It Here," Crowley is still under the control of the hunters.

"For Crowley this should be an interesting year," Sheppard revealed. "The so-called cure having not been completed still, I think, has an effect on Crowley, whether he likes it or not. There is some sort of residual effect that we probably will be intersecting with at some point this year, much to Crowley's chagrin."

Recent trailers have shown that the slightly altered King of Hell will be spending some time in the Winchester's Men of Letters dungeon, which may not be a bad thing. Abaddon (Alaina Huffman) is back and clearly hell bent on stealing Crowley's crown. As the Knight of Hell tries to smoke out her nemesis in episode 2, "Devil May Care," Crowley is probably much safer locked up somewhere she can't get.

Supernatural returns to the CW on Sept. 8.
