Sharon Simmons is fulfilling her dream at 55 years of age and is driving forward in the hopes of becoming a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader. The mom originally dreamed of taking up the position when she was just 22 years old, but has had to wait more than three decades for the dream to be finally come within her reach.

The Cowboys cheerleading squad hopeful has said, "I thought about this when I was about 22 years old. I was a single mom, and I wanted to do it," according to Inquisitr.

But despite her desire to become a cheerleader a combination of money, time, and raising a family blocked her path at that point in her life. Now 33 years later Simmons is auditioning for the Dallas Cowboys squad along with hundreds of other hopefuls.

Simmons has said, "It literally has been about the journey. I've met incredible people, I've learned so many new things."

Referring to her older age than her fellow competitors Simmons said, "I don't see a number... If I do, it's just a number. It's not that I can't keep up with [younger women] in the physical part of the training."
If Simmons gets through the cheerleading trials she would be the oldest cheerleader in the NFL. Currently Laura Vikmanis is the oldest cheerleader in the league at 42 years of age, but she will be well beaten in age if Simmons makes the cut.
