Oscar Predictions 2014: 10 Frontrunners for Best Picture Including 'Gravity,' '12 Years a Slave' & More [PHOTOS]

The film industry is rolling out their contenders for the Academy Awards in the hope of gaining a coveted Oscar.

  • 'Gravity' has already made over $200 million in the U.S. and received very positive critical reviews. The film chronicles the journey of two astronauts who get disconnected and are forced to do whatever they can to survive.
  • '12 Years a Slave' has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 96% and has Oscar experts predicting it will win Best Picture. The film tells the true story of Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), who was forced to spend 12 years as a slave despite being a free man.
  • 'Captain Phillips' has Tom Hanks receiving some of the highest praise of his career from critics. The film recounts the true story of a U.S. ship that was attacked by Somalian pirates in 2009.
  • "Lee Daniels' The Butler" has been a box office success with its all-star cast and powerful true story of a butler that served under multiple U.S. presidents.
  • 'Fruitvale Station' is based on the true story of Oscar, a man who was shot and killed by a police officer at a train station despite being innocent.
  • 'American Hustle' features an all-star cast that includes Jennifer Lawrence, Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper in a pulpy '70s-era thriller. (Dec. 13)
  • 'The Wolf of Wall Street' reunites Leonardo DiCaprio with director Martin Scorsese in a tale of corruption on Wall Street. (Dec. 25)
  • 'Saving Mr. Banks' features Tom Hanks as Walt Disney in the true story of the businessman's acquisition of the rights to 'Mary Poppins.' (Dec. 13)
  • 'Inside Llewyn Davis' features an up and coming folk musician entering the turbulent folk music industry in the 1960s. (Dec. 6)
  • Director Alexander Payne (Sideways) returns for 'Nebraska,' a film about a middle-aged man who travels Montana to Nebraska to claim a million-dollar prize.
