R&B singer Ruben Studdard was shockingly the second contestant eliminated on this season of The Biggest Loser in the episode that aired on Tuesday.

The American Idol season 2 winner was kicked off of the weight loss reality show because he had lost only 5 pounds at his weigh-in.

Studdard, 35, joined the show weighing a whopping 462 pounds. His first weigh-in was impressive -- he lost 21 pounds his first week at the ranch. During his second week, however, his progress slowed significantly, and he lost only three pounds. When he shed only five pounds this week, it greatly contributed to his red team's loss.

Because his teammate Tanya Winfield did not lose any weight last week, his other teammate Dolvett Quince -- who lost only three pounds this week -- was forced to use his teammate "save" and he gave it to Tanya.

Studdard was reportedly asked by producers to join the show for season 15, which premiered on Oct. 8.

Studdard has struggled with his weight after he won American Idol season 2 in 2003 and he gained 100 pounds, according to The Associated Press. He later shed some pounds when he participated in a Duke University weight-loss challenge. After he divorced Surata Zuri McCants in 2011, following a three-year marriage, he reportedly gained the weight back.

During an on The Wendy Williams Show in March 2012, he said he ballooned to over 400 pounds due to stress from the divorce and from working to pay off a $100,000 tax bill.

Studdard, who is nicknamed "Velvet Teddy Bear", has released five studio albums and has been nominated for a Grammy.
