Shock jock Howard Stern is officially returning for his third season of America's Got Talent in 2014.

Stern announced the news of his return on his Sirius XM radio show Tuesday. He is the first judge to confirm his presence on America's Got Talent season 9.

"It started out as a goof. Now it's becoming a job. I am very excited to be going back to America's Got Talent," he told his listeners Tuesday. "I will go back [for] one more season."

He added that fellow judges Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and Mel B would likely be returning to America's Got Talent as well but he was not certain.

Stern first joined America's Got Talent in season 7, replacing Pierce Morgan. At the time, there were only three judges: Stern, Mandel and Sharon Osbourne, who left after the season. The decision to return to America's Got Talent was not an easy one for Stern, as he explained to his listeners.

"I decided I needed a personal life, but that big black hole in me that demands attention . . . [that part] won."

Sharon Osbourne Slams America's Got Talent

Based on his comments, season 9 of America's Got Talent may be his last, though things may change within a year.

Season 8 of America's Got Talent featured the crowning of Kenichi Ebina as the winner. Ebina is a dancer/mime who the judges heavily praised throughout the season. Fellow finalist Forte, an opera trio, recently released their first album.

Season 9 of America's Got Talent is expected to premiere on NBC in summer 2014, though a specific air date has not yet been scheduled.
