Fox's Almost Human will hit upon a 2048 subject that's quite relatable to the viewers of today - black market organs.

However, buying a heart in a back-alley deal comes with one major caveat in the future. When you don't pay up, dealers can shut off your synthetic heart whenever they feel like it.

When a man enters a hospital knowing the exact time he is going to have a heart attack, Detective Kennex (Karl Urban) and Dorian (Michael Ealy) are called in to investigate during "Arrhythmia."

The fact that viewers can relate on some level to a crime in this chaotic, distant future is something executive producer JJ Abrams (Star Trek Into Darkness) was hoping for.

"Like any story-out-of-time, you want characters and situations where you go, 'I know what that is. I know what that feels like. I know someone like that' - even though the person might be a different species," Abrams told Entertainment Weekly. "The paradigm is familiar, but the specifics are different...t might be a bullet that doesn't shoot the way you expect. It might be a drug that does something to you that's insane and horrific. It might be something about harvesting organs that isn't like anything in present day."

Meanwhile, seeing a human shut down like an Android may strike a cord with Dorian. As a creation built to mimic humans as closely as possible, Dorian has the unique ability to relate the death of a person to his inability to control whether or not a human shuts him down.
