Controversial Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson defended himself at his local church this week and further clarified his stance on homosexuality.

Robertson found himself in the middle of a media frenzy after making comments to GQ magazine about homosexuality being a sin among other comments that were interpreted as anti-gay. At his local church, Robertson spoke out about the controversy and noted that he was simply quoting scripture.

"I love all men and women. I am a lover of humanity, not a hater," he said. "Common sense says we are not going to procreate the human race unless we have a man and a woman. From the beginning Jesus said, 'It is a man and a woman.' Adam was made and Eve was made for this reason. They left their fathers and mothers and be united to become one flesh, that's what marriage is all about."

Robertson also defended himself against criticism that he was just an uneducated redneck from the deep South.

"We are a bunch of rednecks from Louisiana, but I am not uneducated, I have a degree from Louisiana Tech," Robertson noted. "But this week I have been called an ignoramus. This week I have been asked, 'Is this the first time you have brought up sin?' I said, 'Are you kidding? I have been traveling to and fro spreading this message.'"

Robertson's comments to GQ magazine led A&E, the network that airs Duck Dynasty, to remove him from the program. Outraged fans took to Facebook and Twitter, launching a new group called "I Stand With Phil." Robertson will still appear on the upcoming season of Duck Dynasty as the episodes have already been filmed, but he has been suspended from the show "indefinitely."
