Eager American Horror Story fans are even closer to finding out what the concept will be for season 4.

Thus far, American Horror Story has tackled a haunted house, an insane asylum and witches in its three seasons on the air. Season 4 will find the horror anthology series going back in time.

"It's set in 1950," executive producer Ryan Murphy told Entertainment Weekly this week. "If you look historically what happened in the year 1950, there's some more clues in that year. It's a period piece. We try and do the opposite of what we've done before. Jessica Lange has already started practicing her German accent so I'm very excited!"

1950 in America was a significant year for weeding out communists residing in the country, commonly referred to as the Red Scare. As the show tends to tell stories about the oppression of minority groups, the Red Scare could be a perfect concept for the show to tackle.

In the episode Protect the Coven, Fiona (Lange) and Marie Laveau (Angela Bassett) are meeting with the witch hunters when the leader Harrison (Michael Cristofer) mentions communism.
