Following the success of Sound of Music, NBC will be producing Peter Pan as the next live musical for this year's holiday season.

While making the announcement at the Television Critics Association winter press tour on Jan. 19, the network's chairman Bob Greenblatt joked about having Miley Cyrus play the boy who wouldn't grow up. Greenblatt pointed to the resounding success of their earlier production Sound of Music as motivating them to take the decision.

"We're very pleased to be underway on Peter Pan as our next live holiday musical for the whole family," Greenblatt said in a statement. "We were all delighted to see how The Sound of Music Live! struck such a chord in December and brought nearly 19 million people to the live telecast. ... In the hopes that lightning strikes twice, we think we've landed on another great Broadway musical."

The network's live telecast of the musical The Sound of Music drew 18.5 million viewers, when it aired in December last year giving NBC's entertainment division a great boost.

The special show is scheduled to air on Dec. 4. It will be produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Maron, both of whom also worked on Sound of Music for the network.

"We hope to create the joy that has made this musical so beloved," the duo said in the press statement. "We would like a whole new generation to experience 'Peter Pan' and for families across the country to share the magic."

No actors have been cast for roles in the musical yet.

Greenblatt also revealed that NBC would be working on another drama series, called Emerald City, which would be themed around the characters of the Wizard of Oz.
