The writer of HBO's True Detective recently tweeted a potential hint about season 2, suggesting that the new season could feature female detectives.

Hart Self-Destructs in Episode 7 Before Yellow King Revelation?

Nic Pizzolatto, who has written all eight episodes of the first season of True Detective, tweeted a response to a fan's query about the depiction of females in the show.

The user @friggenawesome tweeted to Pizzolatto on Saturday about looking at things from a female lens as well as a masculine one, and the writer was quick to reply:

"@friggenawesome One of the detriments of only having two POV characters, both men (a structural necessity). Next season..." The tweet has since been deleted.

Cohle & Hart Driven Insane In Final Episodes Of True Detective?

While Pizzolatto's "next season" does not say much in and of itself, he may be suggesting that True Detective season 2 could be more centered on females than season 1, which centers on two men, Rust Cohle (Matthew McConaughey) and Marty Hart (Woody Harrelson).

HBO has not yet announced a renewal for True Detective, though ratings have been steadily increasing since the premiere. It was previously revealed that True Detective would be an anthology series, with new actors, characters and locations each season.

This suggests that any big-name talent that wishes to only participate in television for a short period of time could sign on for a season of the show. Additionally, director Cary Fukunaga said that he won't be directing season 2, which means that any big-time directors or writers could produce a season as well.

The current first season of True Detective is winding down with only two episodes left.

True Detective airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on HBO.
