Bryan Singer, the director of the X-Men movies, has signed on for the pilot of Vince Gilligan's new show, Battle Creek.

It was also announced that Damon Herriman (Justified), will play a partner to Kal Penn's character on the CBS show. Penn (Harold and Kumar) will play Detective Fontanelle. Herriman's character has been described as a "nice guy and officer on the Battle Creek Police Department."

The show has also enlisted Dean Winters and Janet McTeer, Edward FOrdham Jr. and Aubrey Dollar. Winters will portray Russ, McTeer will play Commander Guziewivz, Edward Fordham Jr. will play Detective Aaron Funkhauser and Aubrey Dollar as Holly.

Singer's upcoming film X-Men: Days of Future Past will release in May 2014. The film features an ensemble cast including Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, Jennifer Lawrence, Ellen Page, Peter Dinklage, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Shawn Ashmore, Daniel Cudmore, Nicholas Hoult, Omar Sy, Booboo Stewart, and Josh Helman.

The story has been written by Simon Kinberg, Matthew Vaughn and Jane Goldman, Kinberg has also written the screenplay.

Meanwhile Bob Odenkirk will star in the Breaking Bad spin-off Better Call Saul.

The series will revolve around Breaking Bad's character Saul (Odenkirk) and will essentially be a comedy. While Breaking Bad pursed some ingenious comedic strands, it was a complex drama that dealt with dark themes.

It was recently announced that Jonathan Banks will reprise his role as private investigator Mike Ehrmantraut. 

Better Call Saul will premiere in November 2014.
