LaTavia Roberson is one of the original members of Destiny's Child and after a brief hiatus, the new mother and budding actress is making her return to the spotlight, in the upcoming season of R&B Divas:ATL. Here is Part 1 of our interview with her.

LaTavia Roberson is no stranger to the spotlight. After traveling the world, winning two Grammy Awards, and selling more than 80 million records with the original members of Destiny's Child (Beyoncé Knowles, Letoya Luckett and Kelly Rowland), the 32-year-old singer was indeed a bonafide star.

However, after the group's controversial and public decision to move on without she and Luckett in December 1999, Roberson took a much needed break from the spotlight. Now, after a decade-long hiatus, she is making her return to Hollywood return in the upcoming season of TVOne's hit show, R&B Divas: Atlanta. This time around, she is committed to doing things on her own terms.

The Enstars Exclusives team caught up with the fabulous mommy of 8-month-old Lyric, days before her reality television debut to discuss what she's been up to since Destiny's Child, filming the show, and whether or not she will ever return to music.

"At the end of the day I felt like it was time," Roberson told Enstars exclusively. "Filming reality TV is such a wild ride... I learned so much from being around the girls and filming with them so it's been great."

Though she had met most of her cast mates- Angie Stone, Keke Wyatt, Monifah Carter, and Syleena Johnson- before they started filming, she and fellow newbie, former 702 lead singer Kameelah Williams, have a close friendship that spans almost two decades.

The pair met when they were at low points in their careers, after both Destiny's Child and 702 split ways, ultimately testing their faith and causing them to meet at an unexpected common ground. She explained, "I saw her in church at the altar, and I just went to grab her and I hugged her and we just started praying together. That's how we got close."

During this season of the show, Roberson will be navigating life as a new mommy, trying to get her upcoming book My Love Letter published, and focusing on her budding acting career. Though she said possibility of music will always be around, she is happy pursuing other lanes right now. "I think that's what makes me such an interesting diva," Roberson said. "I come from a wonderful group but there are a lot of things about me that have changed that I am trying to find out, but... the sky is the limit. As long as their is a moon, it's even further."


When asked what her dream role would be, her excitement beamed through the phone. She wants to play a person who is totally out of her character, adding, "I want to play some kind of scandalous, dramatic woman like Kerry Washington on Scandal. I want something really dramatic and powerful."

Since we are talking about drama, she said that this season will have its fair share as well, spilling only a dash of what to expect this season.  "I can say though, that bringing six women together with six different respectable careers, histories and opinions... baybay.  It definitely will make for some good TV."
