In a June 9 interview on Late Night With Seth Meyers, HBO's Boardwalk Empire star Steve Buscemi discussed what it was like playing a lead role on a television show, as well as how it feels to be coming to the end of the series.

Salvation Coming For Nucky Thompson On Boardwalk Empire?

"It is bittersweet," Buscemi admitted, "But I think it is probably time."

When Meyers asked about the conclusion of the series, however, Buscemi gave the standard network drama response of ignorance. "I'm excited to see how they're gonna wrap it up," he said, "I mean they don't really tell me anything [about what will happen]."

Boardwalk Empire Adds New Character

Though sad to see the show go, the actor was in good spirits discussing the finale and various theories as to how the program will end.

Known primarily for memorable supporting roles throughout his career, Buscemi claimed that it felt "strange" to play the lead on the HBO drama. "It's been really weird playing a character for this long..." he joked, "I feel like I'm running out of expressions."

Buscemi's character, Enoch "Nucky" Thompson, is based on the real-life Enoch "Nucky" Johnson. As the actor notes, however, the changing of the name had been intentional as to allow showrunners to divert from historical accuracy.

According to Buscemi, this means anything can happen in the final season, including the possibility of Nucky's death.

After all, as the actor says himself, the character he's played throughout the years "have a history of going."
