Dancing With the Stars may be looking to advantage of the newfound interest in soccer and casting for a soccer player to appear in the upcoming fall season of the show.

With World Cup fever sweeping the nation, soccer is the hottest sport in the country currently, and Dancing With the Stars producers seem to be fully aware of that. There is a new report revealing that the producers are looking to cast Landon Donovan, of the L.A. Galaxy.

While Donovan was not included in the U.S. team competing in the World Cup, DWTS producers allegedly want him for their show, according to HollywoodLife.com.

"They have wanted Landon forever for the show," a Dancing With the Stars insider told the publication. "Now that everyone is having World Cup fever and Landon was left off the team...they want him to win another trophy - the Mirror Ball trophy."

Even if Donovan turns down the offer, the producers are said to be looking to cast a soccer player regardless.

"They are putting the full court press on getting him this time and will also reach out to anyone from the U.S. team that makes a name for themselves in the next month," the insider revealed. "They are very interested in making it finally happen. What better time then now?"

Athletes have traditionally done very well on Dancing With the Stars, and considering soccer players have to be quick with their feet, they would likely do very well in the dancing competition.

Dancing With the Stars Season 19 premieres in the fall on ABC, though the network has not yet announced a specific air date. It will be returning to its regular Mondays at 8 p.m. timeslot.
