While Bones is heading into its landmark 10th season, one of the higher-ups at Fox does not have any intention of the show slowing down now.

Peter Rice, the chairman and CEO of the Fox Networks Group, spoke with critics at the Television Critics Association press tour Sunday about Bones and the show's longevity.

"I hope that this year is not the last year," Rice said. "It's a fantastic series that has famously moved all over our schedule, it's done that for 10 years."

Bones has indeed moved around a lot over the course of its first nine seasons. It began airing on Tuesdays before moving to Wednesdays in only the first season, after which point it would find a home on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Season 9 featured Bones airing at Mondays for the start of the season before moving to Fridays and ultimately moving back to Monday again. Now, it's going back to Thursdays at 8 p.m. for its 10th season.

Despite the constant moving, its audience has remained loyal, keeping it on the air since 2005.

Rice explained to the press that the show's stars, Emily Deschanel (Brennan) and David Boreanaz (Booth) are both at the end of their contracts.

"It's Emily and David's last year contractually, so we'll have to have that conversation with them as well," Rice said. "But I hope that will come back."

Without either one of the show's signature stars, it doesn't seem like the show would continue onward, but anything is possible. Most notably, NBC's Law & Order: SVU has survived the departure of longtime star Christopher Meloni, making Mariska Hargitay the sole lead of the show. However, their two characters weren't married, so it would difficult for Bones to pull off.

Bones Season 10 is set to premiere Thursday, Sept. 25 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.
